FLUXNET is a global network of micrometeorological tower sites that measure the exchanges of carbon dioxide, water vapor, and energy between ecosystems and atmosphere, they are tracking the biosphere’s breath.

In a yearlong residency, artists engaged with FLUXNET scientists, global data, and the ecosystems they study, exploring how unexpected beauty can emerge from the concept of flux. Using creative inquiry, fluxART collaborations turned flux science into stories and embodied experiences of nature’s resilience – transforming our relationship with environmental change and the invisible processes that sustain life on Earth.

fluxART projects are showcased from 22 January to 7 March 2026 at the Patricia Valian Reser Center for Creative Arts (PRAx) in the exhibition Currents: Experiments in Art-Science Collaboration.

This pilot artist in residence program is supported by the National Science Foundation’s Accelerating Research through International Network-to-Network Collaborations program (NSF AccelNet Award 2113978), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (NIFA Award 2023-67012-40086) and also made possible through a partnership with the Patricia Valian Reser Center for Creative Arts (PRAx).
