FLUXNET is a global network of micrometeorological tower sites that measure the exchanges of carbon dioxide, water vapor, and energy between ecosystems and atmosphere, they are tracking the biosphere’s breath.

In a yearlong residency, artists engaged with FLUXNET scientists, global data, and the ecosystems they study, exploring how unexpected beauty can emerge from the concept of flux. Using creative inquiry, fluxART turned flux science into stories and embodied experiences of nature’s resilience – transforming our relationship with environmental change and the invisible processes that sustain life on Earth.

fluxART was showcased in Currents: Experiments in Art-Science Collaboration from 22 January to 7 March 2026 at the Patricia Valian Reser Center for Creative Arts (PRAx).

The fluxART is made possible through the FLUXNET Community Coordination Project supported by the National Science Foundation’s Accelerating Research through International Network-to-Network Collaborations program (NSF AccelNet Award 2113978) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (NIFA Award 2023-67012-40086).
