FLUXNET is a global network of micrometeorological tower sites that measure the exchanges of carbon dioxide, water vapor, and energy between ecosystems and atmosphere, they are tracking the biosphere’s breath.

In a yearlong residency, fluxART invited artists to engage with FLUXNET scientists, the ecosystems they study, and the datasets offered by the global network, revealing how unexpected beauty can emerge from the concept of flux and transform our relationship with environmental change. Using creative inquiry and curiosity-driven exploration they turned flux science into stories and embodied experiences of nature’s resilience.

fluxART projects are on view at NSF NCAR’s Mesa Lab May 27 through December 31, 2026 and were showcased in Currents: Experiments in Art-Science Collaboration from 22 January to 7 March 2026 at the Patricia Valian Reser Center for Creative Arts (PRAx).
